# .AU Domains and auDA

> Understanding .au domains and the role of auDA

## What is auDA?

The [Australian Domain Administrator (auDA)](http://www.auda.org.au/) is a legal Australian body responsible for the administration of .au domain names. It is the policy authority and self-regulatory industry body for the **.au** domain space. It is formally endorsed by the Australian Government.

Melbourne IT is one of a only a handful of companies in Australia recognised by auDA as a registrar of .au domain names. Amongst other capabilities, this means we can [register domain names](https://melbourneit.au/domain-names/domain-registration/) and [renew domain names](https://melbourneit.au/domain-names/domain-renewal/) that end .au.

Melbourne IT is subject to the [rules and policies](http://www.auda.org.au/policies/) set forth by the auDA related to domain name registration.

For any [complaints](http://www.auda.org.au/policies/2012-03/) related to domain name ownership please contact the auDA for information about your rights and responsibilities.
