Greyed out Mail Server settings in MacMail

Mac Mail functions slightly differently from other Email Clients. You may encounter issues when attempting to modify your incoming & outgoing mail server settings. If so please refer this article for possible solutions.

WARNING: If you're updating an existing email account setup in Mac Mail do not delete the account as this will delete all mail associated to the account

Automatically detect and maintain account settings

Occasionally

1. Mail
2. Preferences
3. Accounts
4. Select your account on the left hand side.
5. Click the advanced tab.
6. Deselect the box 'Automatically detect and maintain account settings'.
7. You may need to close & restart the Mail app before being able to configure mail server settings.
