How do I set up email forwarding on my domain?

Setting up email forwarding is a straight forward job and should only take a few minutes. Please follow the steps below:

1. Log into your MyAccount and select "Manage domain names".

2. Double click on the domain you want to forward to open the Domain management screen. You need to ensure that the domain points to the servers below:

  • rns1.melbourneit.com.au
  • rns2.melbourneit.com.au

Alternatively if your domain name is registrared through Melbourne IT you may use our primary nameservers.

  • ns1.easyclouddns.net
  • ns2.easyclouddns.net
  • ns3.easyclouddns.net
If you decide to use Easy Cloud DNS , you'll need to add the following MX Records. ( These MX records will also work if you are using external nameservers.
  • rmx1.melbourneit.com.au
  • rmx2.melbourneit.com.au

3. Go back to the home page of the MyAccount and select "Manage services". Click on your web/email forwarding service, then select "Manage service"

4. Select either cloaked or uncloaked forwarding depending on your requirements (if you want to forward web traffic as well as emails). A cloaked forward will not make it obvious to the viewer that traffic is being redirected - the page title will remain the same, whereas an uncloaked forward will let the viewer know that they are being redirected. Enter the domain you are forwarding and the destination domain. You will also see an option to select a destination email address - any emails sent within the domain (ie ending with @mydomain.com where mydomain.com is your domain name) will be sent to this address.

Please be aware that if you have changed the nameservers as instructed above, the changes will take some time to take effect. This is variable depending on various factors (most commonly your internet provider's refresh rate), but is usually around 7-24 hours.
